Top 10 Reasons Star Wars VIII Is “The Last Jedi”

As we geeks try to parse all the meaning in a three-word subtitle of one of our favorite franchises, I thought perhaps we might consider any and all explanations, however odd.

So, without further ado, here are my top ten explanations for why the next Star Wars movie is called The Last Jedi, with an assist from GeekDads Anthony Karcz and Jonathan Liu and GeekMom Nivi Engineer.

#1 LUKE SPEAKS!

#2 Return of the Jedi II: Electric Dookalu wasn’t available.

#3 Someone calls someone “Padawan.”

#4 There will be a lightsaber duel in it. Pretty sure!

#5 Kylo/Ben will feel the pull of the dark side.

#6 Rey will feel a mystical connection to something. I bet it’s the FORCE!

#7 Because they have chosen… poorly.

#8 The Last Jedi is totally Leia who gets a lightsaber and freaking goes to town on Kylo. She sends him to his room without supper for genocide and patricide.

#9 SW: The Last Jedi – We came here to make Jedi and measure midichlorians and we’re all out of midichlorians and since it’s been established that you can’t do one without the other, so I guess we’re all done. Sorry. Thanks!

#10 The last Jedi we had went all mopey and hid on a remote world. The next Jedi is much better.

  1. Maybe bc they are trying to find balance in the Force, and the Jedi are just as unbalanced as the Sith? So no more Jedi after Luke, bc the name is misleading. The Jedi Order becomes something else.

    1. That was my thought exactly. If Luke brings balance to the force, perhaps it’s through realizing that it’s not the Jedi vs the Sith, it’s finding an internal balance for a new order.

      1. Well, if “balance in the Force” means that there are the same number of Jedi as Sith, then I guess the only way to bring balance to the Force without having Sith is for there to be no more Jedi, right?
