Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

If you loved the outfits of Miitomo and the house decorating in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Nintendo has a new 3DS game for you. Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, a new game in the Style Savvy series, gives players the chance to make their mark on the world of fashion in five different professions: Boutique Manager, Designer, Hair Stylist, Makeup Artist, and Model.

While some text errors might make older players cringe, my 7-year-old quickly declared Fashion Forward to be Her Favorite Game Ever.

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward has plenty for budding fashionistas to do. From finding just the right clothes for boutique visitors, to cutting hair and choosing makeup, this is the perfect portable game for kids who love dress-up.

Style Savvy: Fashion ForwardThere’s also the opportunity to decorate rooms and rent them out for quick cash. You can even set up fashion shows and design clothes, which all combines to give Fashion Forward a long life in your game library.

I don’t usually notice localization in Nintendo games, but in the case of Fashion Forward, it was hard to ignore. The text uses British spellings and slang (“I was watching a programme on the telly,” one boutique visitor told me), which isn’t a bad thing at all, just different. The game also refers to underwear and clothes worn in layers as “inners,” and outerwear as “outers.” I’m not too sure if that’s slang I’m not aware of, or terms unique to the game, but they still make me smile every time I play.

Occasional typos are also apparent as the game begins, but become less noticeable as it progresses.

But young players, like my 7-year-old, aren’t bothered by typos and text. Here she is to give you a firsthand tour of the game:

Style Savvy: Fashion Forward will be available on the Nintendo 3DS on August 19 for a suggested retail price of $29.99.

  1. Amazing! Things like this make me feel sad I’m a grown up now. However, our kids will have such cool apps that would develop their imagination 🙂
