The continuing adventures of Gandalf and Bilbo were announced this week, as former Hobbit stars Sir Ian McKellen and Martin Freeman were once again in the forefront of movie news.

Miramax Films and Roadside Attractions has released its first full trailer for Mr. Holmes. In this Bill Condon-directed film based on Mitch Cullin’s novel A Slight Trick of the Mind, McKellen portrays an aging Sherlock Holmes who finds himself revisiting the circumstances of and unsolved case while facing challenges of the diminishing deductive powers of his mind. The movie is already getting positive response from critics for McKellen’s new take on the famed detective.

On the same day, Marvel announced that Freeman will be joining the cast of the next Captain America movie, Captain America: Civil War set for release in May, 2016.

Freeman now joins his partner in crime-solving, and fellow Hobbit alumnus, Benedict Cumberbatch as recent Marvel recruits. It was announced in December of 2014 that Cumberbatch would portray the mystical hero Doctor Steven Vincent Strange in Doctor Strange on the big screen in the fall of 2016.

Freeman’s part in the Captain America franchise has yet to be announced, but both Cumberbatch and Freeman will also return as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson this winter for a BBC Sherlock Christmas Special set in the Victorian era.

So, at this point, we now know the Wizard will become Sherlock, Sherlock (Cumberbatch) will become a Doctor and the Doctor (Watson) will become, well, a mystery!

As for fans of this trio of British actors’ talent, we can be ready to embark on whole new adventures with all of them.

Mr. Holmes comes to theaters July 17, 2015.
