If you find yourself in New York City at the end of May, you definitely want to think about attending the first annual BookCon. It’s happening in conjunction with Book Expo America (BEA), an enormous publishing event that is trade-only (publishers, booksellers, librarians, and bloggers).

But this year ReedPop is putting together an event that is open to the public. The one-day BookCon event on May 31st will feature events with some of the huge names who are attending BEA—like Amy Poehler and Stan Lee. Interactive storytelling podcasts, Q & A sessions, and autographing sessions will be open to everyone. A panel was just announced featuring some of the big heavy hitters in kidlit: Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), James Patterson (Maximum Ride and the Middle School Books), Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson & The Olympians), and Lemony Snicket (A Series of Unfortunate Events). And YA authors including Cassandra Clare, Maggie Stiefvater, and Holly Black will also be there. Definitely. Bring. The. Kids.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for kids ages six to twelve. They are available here.

To kickoff BookCon, ReedPop is also hosting a star-studded panel on May 30th for an additional $10. To celebrate the film adaptation of Jonathan Tropper’s This Is Where I Leave You, Tina Fey and Jason Batemen will be there with director Shawn Levy and Tropper (who also wrote the screenplay) to discuss the book and upcoming movie.

It will be a huge, awesome weekend of geeking out over books and movies, so if you’re in the area buy your tickets before they sell out.
