Last Sunday was the Grammy Awards ceremony. Did you catch it on TV? Personally, my television isn’t even connected to the network cable, so I never really catch anything live, but it sounds like some interesting things happened.

Nevertheless, I had my ear to the ground waiting for news about whether our family’s favorite album, The Mighty Sky by Beth Nielsen Chapman, was going to win Best Children’s Album. With its fun tunes introducing astronomical concepts like neutron stars, the electromagnetic spectrum, the Big Bang, and the scientific method, The Mighty Sky has been playing on repeat in my car ever since I reviewed it in late 2012. As far as me and my family were concerned, this album had our vote. For science!

Unfortunately for astronomy fans, the award went to Throw a Penny in the Wishing Well by Montreal-based artist Jennifer Gasoi. I’m always happy to see someone from my hometown break through the American market, so props to her for that. I sampled her album on Spotify since Sunday’s announcement. Gasoi has a beautifully dainty voice that complements well the album’s playful jazz-inspired songs.

Other nominees included: Blue Clouds by Elizabeth Mitchell & You Are My Flower, Recess by Justin Roberts, and Singing Our Way Through: Songs For The World’s Bravest Kids by Alastair Moock & Friends.
