Happy Comic Release Day! Welcome to another installment of GeekMom Comic Book Corner, where we recap our adventures in comics for the week. This week, I look at Spider-Man: Season One, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Defenders of the Lost Temple and give a shout out to the Flashpoint DC Comics Book Club!

Dakster Sullivan — Spider-Man: Season One
I absolutely love the Season One titles from Marvel. They’re a great jumping on point for newbie readers and the stories are fun in general. This past week, I read over eight graphic novels, including a very good, but dark Batman story. I was happy I saved Spider-Man’s tale for last, because I needed a pick-me-up from the Bat title.

In this title, we get to see Peter Parker get his powers from the radioactive spider and later use his new found abilities to…make money? Yup. Just like in the movie with Toby Maguire, Peter uses his new found powers to make girls swoon and do amazing feats on television. That all ends when Katy Kiernan goes on a mission to destroy Spider-Man in the Daily Bugle.

No worries though, the damage doesn’t stick for too long and we get to see the final events that make Peter Parker decide to take his new powers seriously and realize the meaning of “with great power, comes great responsibility.”

Spider-Man Season One is written by Cullen Bunn and drawn by Neil Edwards.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Defenders of the Lost Temple
Just in case you didn’t know, I’m a Star Wars fan. I’m still new to the Star Wars reading universe though. I checked out Star Wars The Clone Wars : Defenders of the Lost Temple, written by Justin Aclin, after hearing about it on Twitter.

The story takes place during the Clone Wars years and focuses on two characters, clone trooper Glitch and a Jedi padawan. Glitch is often teased by his squad mates for wanting to be a Jedi rather than a trooper. He feels the force within him and wants so badly to use it the way he sees the Jedi command it.

While defending the lost temple from the Mandalorian group, Death Watch, Glitch starts to realize things about himself that set him apart from his fellow clones and saves the day.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox–It’s a DC Comics Book Club!
To prepare for the release of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, starting this Friday and continuing each Friday up to July 30th, I will be posting a review of one of the books tied to Geoff Johns’ Flashpoint event. Read along with me and explore the event that changed the DC Universe forever.

This week, I’ll be looking at The Flash Rebirth and The Flash Vol. 2: The Road to Flashpoint. See you Friday!
