LeapFrog Scholastic — The Magic School Bus: Oceans Review

I grew up on The Magic School Bus TV series and books. I loved seeing the various outfits that Ms. Frizzle would wear on each of her classes adventures in science. The adventure continues on for today’s generation and I’m happy to say my son has finally been introduced to Ms. Frizzle and her magical bus through his Leapster Explorer game, The Magic School Bus: Oceans.

My seven-year old son loves any game that has to do with school so I knew he was the perfect child to test this game out. The adventure begins as the class takes the Magic School bus under the waves and into the wonderful world of over 100 undersea creatures.

Through various levels of the ocean, the game teaches you about the marine life that live in that level of the ocean. After teaching a particular fact or skill, the game reinforces it with either a trivia challenge or a mini-game. Players can earn badges for completing these games and in turn use them to purchase accessories within the game.

Through various activities, the game teaches children a wide range of skills including: observation, logic and reasoning, sorting and classifying.

The Magic School Bus: Oceans is recommended for children between the ages of five to eight years old (or grades K thru 2nd) and is available wherever Leapster games are sold and is compatible with the LeapPad1, LeapPad2, LeapsterGS and Leapster Explorer systems. You can also purchase the game for the Nintendo DS system.
