A super-sized Superman will begin welcoming fellow air travelers to his hometown starting October 11. This larger-than-life figure will be one of the first thing fliers see when they arrive at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. He’ll stay right where he is for photo ops too.

Yes, we know DC Comics insists Cleveland isn’t Superman’s birthplace but he was dreamed up by Cleveland teens Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster back in the 1930’s. So logically even Superman’s birthplace, Krypton, was “made in Cleveland.”

The  likeness is part of an exhibit created by the Siegel and Shuster Society, an organization formed to honor our superhero’s co-creators. It was made possible by Superman fans, who donated nearly $50,000. The Superman statue will stand in front of an informational display, accessible to fliers and airport visitors.

If I’m picking you up at the airport, I’ll meet you at Superman. Just don’t compare the Man of Steel’s x-ray vision to TSA screening.
