The GeekMoms need your help to get their panels accepted at South by Southwest this year. From March 8th-17th legions of tech, film and music geeks will be in Austin, Texas for this huge event. It lasts for 10 days and hosts all sorts of talks by experts in their fields. GeekMom has submitted two panels, but competition is fierce. Since 30% of SXSW panel selection is by popular vote, we need your help to make this happen!

You’re Better Than You Think: Blog Like a Pro
You’re a great subject matter expert, but that doesn’t mean you’re a great writer. A lot of us get put into this position, either because we’ve got strong opinions on our subject, are trying to build a reputation for ourselves in the industry, or are working for a company that doesn’t have a dedicated communications staff.

How do you write from a personal perspective without seeming completely unprofessional? How do you find a voice while still being yourself? What’s the etiquette for working with PR people and building positive relationships? What can you do to make your blog have a genuine yet professional look and feel?

The Action Women Want At The Movies
Conventional attitudes suggest that action movies are the domain of men, with films often being made by men, for men, starring men with women appearing only long enough to be saved. It’s the most sexist of genres in theaters, but the reality is that women like action, too, and films that forget this are missing out.

Including a token woman in an ensemble cast of men or as a piece of butt-kicking eye candy just isn’t cutting it anymore. A strong, female character, one who uses her womanhood as a strength not a weakness, is more than capable of carrying an action movie. Yet, for every success like Ellen Ripley there are failures like Catwoman or Elektra.

Thank you so much for taking the time to vote. We appreciate your support, and hope to see you in Austin, Texas!
