Unleashing the Force in my ‘Star Wars’ Geekiness

Okay, maybe I like Star Wars just a little…. Photo: Timothy Vollmer, used with permission.

GeekMom, it’s your fault. I had kept much of my affinity for Star Wars tempered all these years. In fact, my husband didn’t even realize the wealth of seemingly useless Star Wars knowledge in my brain until I started writing for you.

Suddenly, I had a circle of colleagues, soon to be friends, with whom I could dish about the latest Star Wars trendy news. It’s been wonderful!

My husband was quite intrigued, though. He knew I loved the movies, and he’s just as much a Trekkie as I am a Star Wars geek, but he didn’t see me really open up about it until early 2011. It wasn’t because I was embarrassed or anything, it’s more because we busily stuck with other geeky hobbies, from my husband’s model railroading to our Civil War reenacting.

Now I had a chance to write about all the Star Wars geekiness I wanted! With a captive audience!

Need an R2-D2 costume idea?

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World in May or June?

Wondered about whether those William-Sonoma Star Wars cupcake kits are worth the money?

How about a great apparel gift idea for that Star Wars geek girl in your life?

I also enjoyed sharing countless fun stories that were found throughout the internet. Like this TIE fighter for sale on Craigslist, Carrie Fisher’s successes on Jenny Craig, and these cool milk jug Stormtroopers (which our sons’ Cub Scout Day Camp will be making this summer!)

Ever the numbers girl, I actually never thought to measure my Star Wars geekiness. However, in our preparations for our Star Wars celebration this week on GeekMom, I counted 11 Star Wars posts among the 127 I’ve written for GeekMom in the past 18 months. By my count that means nearly one out of every 10 posts I’ve contributed has been Star Wars related!
