This Week With the GeekMoms

Dakster Sullivan will be proudly marching with the 501st Legion at Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This will be her second year participating and her husband’s first. Their son Brandon is looking forward to four weekends of playing in the parks after mommy and daddy are done marching.

Ariane and her kiddo are both down and out with nasty cold. She’s hoping they will both get better before Maker Faire this weekend!

Patricia is enjoying another stint, this time for 1 1/2 weeks, in Omaha for her Air Force Reserve duty. As is typical when she’s away, something in the household gets knocked off balance: the poor dog caught bronchitis. Her dear husband, already busy with the sons’ baseball playoffs, somehow made time to get the dog to the vet! Meanwhile, Patricia is taking advantage of some of the alone time by working out, repairing her recently-dropped iPhone and browsing at one of her favorite stores, Cabela’s.

Rebecca Angel is going to the Tower Hill Botanical Gardens today to enjoy the beautiful weather. She is also busily planning for her Party Camp, and has a bunch of graduations to attend!

Melissa Wiley is brushing up on the Great Crayon-Pencil War of 1953.

Laura insists it’s possible to honor our lazy genes and still lose weight, which could explain why she’s strangely content while hauling wheelbarrow loads of manure. Or maybe it’s her new clarity after confessing how her formerly smug parenting ended when her child turned out to be a biter.

Kelly Knox is inspired to take up her knitting needles again after visiting the world’s most adorable yarn and tea shop on Bainbridge Island. Kelly can knit and purl, but still needs a lot of practice if she wants to make something actually presentable.

Brigid is getting ready for Dallas Comic-Con this weekend. If you’re attending, stop by her booth and say hi!

Jen D. has been busy since January, losing 25 pounds and running her first 5K last Friday. Her husband, daughter, and best friend ran with her, and her daughter came in second in her age group! She is anxious for school to be out so she can start doing geeky summer things with her kids.

Ruth is now accepting last-minute suggestions for fabulously geeky, weird, or delicious things to do on a road trip through New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, and points in between.

Marziah is counting down to the last days of school for her kids and counting up to the first days of grad school for herself.

On Wednesday, Andrea got to hear Steve Duncan talk to a packed room at the New York Public Library about urban exploration (with an emphasis on underground rivers and urban sewer systems). Favorite moments included mention of Victorian Paris’ Sewer Tour by boat and…well…all of the photographs–urban sewers can be remarkably beautiful places! This weekend, she’ll be attending the Steampunk World’s Fair in Paramus, New Jersey and meeting Jean-Christophe Valtat, author of Aurorarama.
