Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’re already in week four of our Kodak and GeekMom giveaway! We’ve been busy putting our own printers to work (which were given to the four editors, Jenny, Kathy, Corinna, and myself) provided by Kodak (you can learn about my favorite Harry Potter character later this week and the inspiration behind my Kodak Design Gallery creations!). But on top of that they’ve been helping us give away one printer a week to a lucky commenter! Last week’s winner, chosen by random number generator, was Peter! Congratulations, Peter!

  1. Ha! good question! I had a strange fascination with Snape, not a crush, but I always empathized with him when reading and loved Alan Rickman’s portrayal. But for the movies, definitely LOVED Gary Oldman as Sirius Black! Misunderstood rebel with a loyal, heroic soul. Haawwwt! And also, I really liked Sean Biggerstaff as Oliver Wood, who was of age, so it’s not too creepy. That was my inner teen talking 🙂

  2. I just adore Professor McGonagall. She seems so stern, but actually, she’s just a softy on the inside.

  3. Hermione is my favorite. I really identified with her the most (being a geek, school girl, and the responsible one among my friends.) I also happened to have pretty frizzy hair that I had to figure out as I grew up. 🙂

  4. Severus Snape is my favorite character, because he’s complex – more so than you would expect for a children’s book, and more so than in most adult books. He’s by no means perfect, but his imperfections are understandable as you learn more about him. After the sixth book, I was very concerned that Rowling would actually have him turn out to be a Death Eater, which seemed contrary to much of the spirit and lessons of the earlier books. It just seemed too simplistic. I’m glad it turned out the way I hoped – and that Harry ultimately understood and appreciated Snape.

  5. i have to agree with the others mentioning Snape. He is so complicated and is a great lesson to my kids about the potential for complexity in those who are seemingly “bad.”

  6. Sirius. I loved his storyline and his connection with Harry. And I loved The Prisoner of Azcaban, since it was so much darker than the first two movies. My favorite part was watching all the Wanted posters of Sirius. Ahhh, I forgot how much I loved that movie!… Off to go watch it 🙂

  7. This is a tough one, because I have different favorites for each book and movie. But if I had to choose, it would be Sirius because of the fairytale-like storyline between him and Harry. Oh, and also because “Prisoner of Azkaban” is my favorite book of the series!

  8. Favorite characters… they are all so compelling. But I have to say that Neville Longbottom, both for his stuttery unease as a young student and for the assured young man he becomes. Luna Lovegood is another favorite, for being so intuitive and yet so unaware (or uncaring) of how she is perceived. And they both come into their own so well as the series progresses, I can definitely relate to that!

  9. Such a tough choice… I’m going to go with Fred & George. Technically that is two people, but it would be hard to seperate them. I love the comic relief they provide. I am also amused that they aren’t given much thought in the brains department by others, but the joke spells and items they create are the best around. They are actually very talented, just not in the traditional ways. The characters of Fred and George are great in the movies but they are brilliant in the books. How can you not like them???

  10. I would have to say I love Hermoine. She is the epitome of a strong female heroine, with all of the attributes of an outcast (being a muggle), and sublime power. She is a loyal friend, frequently fearless, and rational. Love her.

  12. My favourite crush would be Severus Snape. Ever since reading the first book, the way he describes first year classes to prepare them on the effects of potions, had causes me to blush when watching the movie. He hit me hard into my brain, that I never looked into dept for the other characters apart from him. Love him lots in this series. Alan Rickman potrayed him really well too.

  13. My favorite character is a tie between Professor McGonagall and Molly Weasley. My students will jokingly call me McGonagall. 🙂 And who doesn’t love Molly? She may be a little misguided at times but she loves Harry, plus the “Not my daughter…” line is one of the best in the series!

  14. Very tough question, I just love Harry but I’d have to say my favorite character at the moment is Molly Weasley. What a great mom and I can so relate her domestic life.

  16. Hmmm…I think the only crush I had from movies or books was Kieffer Sutherland (various movies). Not a crush anymore…but in high school he was swoony.

  17. As far as the movies, I thought Oliver Wood in the first movie was really cute! He had more of a Scottish accent as he taught Harry about Quidditch…one of my favorite scenes.

  18. I’ve always loved Neville (especially in the 6th & 7th books). And Matt Lewis has turned into quite the stud. : )

  19. My absolute faaavorite character is Hermione Granger for her admirable personality and spark!

  20. My favorite character is Hermione. I’m terrible at explaing things but she’s bright, strong and seems to be the level headed anchor that everyone can count on.

  21. Hmmm, this is hard. My favorite characters change A LOT. I have to go with my daughter on this one though. Rapunzel from Tangled is my current favorite character. That movie speaks to me. Why I don’t know but it is heart warming.

    1. Opps! Its late and I didn’t read that right. You want my fav character in Harry Potter! LOL DUH! Favorite character has to be harry, but Hermione comes in a close second.

  22. I would have to say I don’t have a favorite character.. I have two. The Weasley twins have always been my favorite. They provided humor at just the right moments and grew up rather handsome for the movies!

  24. My favorite character would have to be Dobby. I named my dog after him in 2005 and just loved his role in the book and in the movies

  26. i love all the characters, even the bad guys. There are all so perfectly written. My favorite is perhaps Luna Lovegood. She is so fun and free spirited. 🙂

  28. Has to be Hermione. She has a toughness that is wonderful watch and yet a sweet side.

  30. I love Fred and George! They bring so much fun and humor to the movies. Someone mentioned Luna, I love her innocence and wisdom.

  32. Snape is my favorite character. I think he is an extraordinary person to do what he had to do to protect Harry. He did some pretty crummy things, but they were all in the best interest of protecting Harry and obeying Dumbledore. When I read the first book and everything pointed to Snape, my first thought was “No that would be to obvious, who else could it be…”. I was sad when I saw the ending of his character, but again, he was a very honorable character.

  34. Snape for sure, he’s dark and mysterious and has a evil but good kinda evil feel to him

  35. Rubeus Hagrid from what I’ve seen, heard and lil I’ve read, he is Harry’s guardian and guide… just something about him…. that makes me smile.

  36. I love them all so much but I am voting for Hagrid. Or Dobby. See….its so hard to choose. Each character is so well written and lovable!

  37. I’m split between Ron and Snape. I love Ron’s normality, his genuineness and his sense of humour. Snape, though, is a man with a tortured soul. ‘Nuff said. 🙂

  38. I love Harry Potter and his friends, but Harry ultimately because he has endured so much in his orphan life and as he got older, the more powerful of a wizard he becomes. I also like the friendship between Harry and Ron.

  39. It’s so hard to choose! But if I’m forced, I would have to say that the development of Neville Longbottom over the course of the series is possibly the most compelling character arc. His badassery gave me chills in the 7th book, so far from the stammering shy kid he began. I can’t wait to see how it plays out in the movie tonight! I know Rowling had meant to include much more about Neville that ended up being cut to save pages; I hope we get to see more of it on the interactive website.

    (But I love you, too, Hermione! And Luna! Oh, and Molly, and McGonagall… cripes, Rowling did such an awesome job with female characters…)

  40. My favorite character to relate to is Molly — there’s something about her laid back caring of her kids and Harry and Hermione — but you know she’ll protect them like a Momma bear too.

  41. My geeky heart goes to Snape — solitary, fish-out-of-water as a school teacher, puts up a consistent appearance of being a bad boy but then demonstrates profound loyalty to Goodness. He revels in his differences from his colleagues. Alohamora to my heart.

    My daughter, Rosie, who was disappointed not to receive an acceptance letter from Hogwarts, says her favorites are “Fred and George because they are loyal, lovable, have their priorities straight, and know what they want to do with themselves. They are just amazing.”

  42. I have so many favorite characters but I really like Luna Lovegood. I don’t know, she’s just so different and so carefree about everything and I love it! 🙂 I also love Hedwig and Crookshanks and of course, Pigwidgeon! 🙂

  45. My character crush has always been Ron Weasley, but my favorite character is Luna Lovegood. I love her spirit, her independence, her slight geek-iness, and the fact that she is not afraid to be herself, no matter what others think.

  46. Ginny Weasley is wickedly good with a bat bogey curse, and the final book would have been all the better had she gone along on the quest for the horcruxes. Perhaps there will be a “Shadow of the Horcrux” novel, a la Orson Scott Card, telling the story of her adventures at Hogwarts during that year.

  47. I had a little crush on cedric diggory played by pre-edward robert pattinson in “harry potter and the goblet of fire.” 🙂

  48. I think Molly Weasley– Ron’s mom– is one of my favorites. She knits, she’s got attitude, and even though her kids do some of the crazy things they do, ultimately, they are good kids and know right from wrong. She’s created a truly cohesive family, as well as extended that love and loyalty to extended family as well. Not only that, she’s a kick-butt fighter, even if she gives off that homespun vibe. She knits (and so do I), but she can fight as well, if not better than anyone else. You don’t mess with someone with knitting needles, especially if one might be a wand. 😉

  49. I love it when Professor McGonagall calls the statures to protect the school, then turns and says she’s wanted to use that spell for ages. It is so cool!

  50. I think the best part of this movie is when you get to see Professor Snape showing how much he loved Lily and how much he suffered every time he looked at Harry and saw Lily’s eyes.

  53. Favorite character in the books – Harry! But in the movies, it has to be Snape. Alan Rickman is the perfect Snape!

  58. my favorite character was sirius black. In the story ever since his introduction, the things he did, were always in Harry’s best interest. even if he wasn’t always doing the right thing. . . gotta love a rebel. 🙂

  59. so hard to narrow it down. I love the strong woman, hermoine, Molly weasley, Mrs. McGonegall even Luna Lovegood.
